Intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT) in pancreatic cancer: Joint analysis of the ISIORT-Europe experience
From this joint analysis emerges the fact that preoperative radiotherapy increases the effects of IORT in terms of local control and overall survival. The 5-year local control of 23.3% confirms the beneficial ‘‘sterilizing” effect of IORT on the tumor bed.
Long-term survivors using intraoperative radiotherapy for recurrent gynecologic malignancies
Survival for pelvic recurrence of gynecologic cancer is poor (range, 0–25%). IORT after surgery seems to confer long-term local control in carefully selected patients.
Intraoperative Radiation Therapy in the Treatment of Pelvic Gynecologic Malignancies: A Review of Fifteen Cases
The volume of residual disease prior to IORT may be an important prognostic indicator for disease relapse. Both local recurrence and distant metastasis were more common among patients with gross residual disease at the time of IORT. Our institutional experience with IORT further supports the importance of optimal surgical resection.
Image-Guided total-marrow irradiation using helical tomotherapy in patients with multiple myeloma and acute leukemia
This study shows that TMI using helical tomotherapy is clinically feasible. The reduced acute toxicities observed compare favorably with those seen with standard TBI. Initial results are encouraging and warrant further evaluation as a method to dose escalate with acceptable toxicity or to offer TBI-containing regimens to patients unable to tolerate standard approaches.
Image-Guided total marrow and total lymphatic irradiation using helical tomotherapy
Sparing of normal tissues and dose escalation is possible using helical tomotherapy. Late effects such as radiation pneumonitis, veno-occlusive disease, cataracts, neurocognitive effects, and the development of second tumors should be diminished in severity and frequency according to the dose reduction realized for the organs at risk.
Helical tomotherapy targeting total bone marrow after total body irradiation for patients with relapsed acute leukemia
This study confirms the clinical feasibility of using HT to deliver TMI as selective dose boost modality after TBI. For patients with advanced leukemia targeted TMI after TBI may be a novel approach to increase radiation dose with low risk of severe toxicity.
Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy with Helical Tomotherapy for Pain Palliation in Spine Metastasis
Is helical tomotherapy accurate and safe enough for spine stereotactic body radiotherapy?
SBRT using HT can be a safe treatment modality for spine metastasis with enhanced targeting accuracy.
